Brood XI (17-year)

Brood XI was last recorded near the Ashford/Willington town line in eastern CT. The last recorded emergence was on a dairy farm in 1954; no sightings were recorded in 1971, 1988, or 2005. Records in RI seem doubtful, because of sandy and wet soils. (Manter 1974)
This map is intended to portray only an approximate, present-day brood distribution. It is based on previously published maps (Marlatt 1923). A project is currently underway to make new maps of periodical cicada broods. See the Magicicada mapping project homepage.
